But the central question is, How effective or believable is the character of the clergyman’s daughter – Dorothy – herselfStylistic devices and personal opinionThe most significant stylistic device is in the third part of the novel. Here there is a continuation of stylistic experiments, continuing modern modernist methods from the second part.Part three is written entirely in the script format. It gives brief settings, and then extended dialogs of dialogue of different characters. Here a format was used to describe the incessant and insane chatter of vagabonds, among which was Dorothy. One night in Trafalgar Square gathered such types as Charlie, Snooter, Mr. Tallboy, Defi, Mrs. Wayne, Mrs. Bendigo, Ginger and Kick.Someone speaks tiresomely for a long time, who is silent and thinks about his problems. This part is difficult to read and Orwell agrees with this. Therefore it often uses at the end of dialogs etc.Another Orwellian stylistic solution is a generalization. (Chapter 4)Figure 2 Personal opinionIn describing the main character Dorothy, I imagined a seemingly modest girl, but a victim inside. Each day is a vicious circle, through which a tired squirrel runs tired. At the beginning of the book, only one day from the girl's life is described in detail. But that was enough to get a feeling that she wants to escape. She was fed up by the all small and insignificant actions of her dull life. She was patient and pricked herself with pins, even for the smallest sins and even thought which she thinks are different from what is proper. So it continues exactly until the moment when she does not fall in sleep tired of monotonous efforts. After that Dorothy faces hard trials and a long road from the very bottom of London’s life. Maybe there isa contrast between the ”old” and “new” life of Dorothy, but I waited until the very last lines of a completely different final of this story. Dorothy is a capable and hardworking girl, who is ready to develop, but, unfortunately, it is not an interest for anyone from her environment to admit this.Orwell raises the topic of poverty and humility. He does not just put Dorothyin front of the choice to decide what is bad or even worse. He just explains this choice and shows that every person has deep fears that force him or her to go in a certain direction. The young writer takes his herothrough the numerous suffers and trials and brings her back to her father’s house. After learning the harsh truth of life, the girl loosesthe believe in God, but still continues to work hard and live the same life. The main idea of this novel is that there necessarily comes a time when everyone gets the opportunity to radically change of his/her life. Some use this chance, while others are afraid to take a step that will lead to unpredictable consequences.“A Clergyman’s Daughter” is a realistic novel with a bright plot and strong content. The main positive feature of this book is its brilliant quality. George Orwell is a true master of the word and the novel is written very high level. The work of Orwell is incredibly realistic, it describes in detail the ubiquitous cult of money, cynicism and egoism - those qualities that formerly surrounded our ancestors and continue to surround us in the modern world. The book “A Clergyman’s Daughter” consists of three parts, which differ from each other. But they are united by the fact that they completely take possession of the attention of the reader. The novel presents a whole gallery of different characters - kind and cruel, sincere and deceitful. Each of them is described with amazing clarity. The author pays much attention to the topic of religion. What distinguishes fanatical religiosity from the real belief? Is a truly believer able to make other people unhappy? There is no place or environment where the girl would feel happy. There are no previous convictions, there is only a model of behavior - a lifelong image of the rector’s daughter, whomin fact he can’t accept anymore but should pretend that forgives. The loss of memory caused her to lose her belief in God, but did not change her dull life…This book is a celebration of the natural world and is not what most people associate with Orwell, but it is there, along with lots of other unexpected qualities in this strange, uneven, unfinished, wildly uneven but compellingly readable book.It is definitely worth reading this book for all sorts of reasons. The fact that people who live in small countryside towns have only a very dim conception of anything that happens more than ten miles from their own front door is clearly described by Orwell.
