As a grocery store, they focus on local shoppers, making this advertising model ideal for their business model.The second store I visited was Shaw's in Scarborough. This supermarket has more than 100 stores in the New England region. Unlike Market Basket, prices often seem to be higher than other supermarkets in the area. However, Shaw's makes up for this by offering big sales as part of its weekly flyers. In turn, Shaw's seems to be targeting different groups of customers who will be interested in staying, depending on which items are featured on their weekly flyers, rather than building a large base of loyal customers. Shaw's also offers a pharmacy in its stores, which is not available in Market Basket. Although they offer this pharmacy service, they don't offer a cafe, instead they only go with a "ready to eat" approach.Shaw's demonstrates 4P a little differently than in Market Basket. Due to the size difference between the stores I visited, they offer a little less variety of products. As for the price, Shaw's is usually more expensive than in Market Basket, more dependent on weekly flyer sales to attract customers. Like Market Basket, Shaw's is also a great place for their business model. Central centralization in New England allows Shaw's to handle overhead costs well in all of its stores. The show is also promoted in the same way as Market Basket by handing out weekly flyers in local newspapers.The third store I visited was Sam's Club. Sam's Club is a wholesale club where customers need a membership card to make purchases. Unlike Market Basket and Shaw's, it offers a wide range of goods and services, in addition to food, such as a pharmacy, cafe, gas station, tire warehouse, mechanics, eye care equipment, as well as a wide range of goods from televisions to books. The store is a national chain, which is very different from the stores in New England that I visited before. The food in the store is more quantity-oriented, so customers buy products that, as a rule, either do not mind buying food for more than one night, or have their own business that requires a large number of goods. Like Market Basket and Shaw's, they still offer their own set of products known as "membership badge" products. The store is quite large, as there are a lot of items in it, and looks more like a warehouse than a typical supermarket.Sam's Club has 4 P, which are very different from those in Market Basket and Shaw. They offer many different products, but not so many variations within them. They also offer services such as mechanical work that were not in the other two stores I visited. The price is usually much better than in other stores, but you also most often have to buy in larger quantities than in other places. Sam's Club is a national chain that differs in its market position from Market Basket and Shaw's. Some products can move much further to get into the store, making stocks more relevant for monitoring. Finally, this promotion is different from other stores I have visited. They do offer flyers from time to time, but the prices are more set as it is a wholesale club. They don't offer too much advertising, but they still thrive by offering membership offers on websites like Groupon.The three stores I visited showed how the stores differ from the competition. The marketing basket is focused on loyal customers looking for good prices, while Shaw is focused on weekly sales that increase their traffic. Sam's Club, being the outsider of the three, being a one-stop shop for his client, builds a reputation for consistency and buys in bulk, as opposed to fewer products.
