Thus, this type remains one of the most popular for all visitors and continue constantly evolving.The next type is fine-dining, that started to appear towards the end of the Middle Ages (Mealey, 2018). Currently fine-dining dining restaurants offer the best food, service and ambience (MasterClass staff, 2021). Firstly, the food is considered more expensive and of higher quality, including first and second courses, starters, desserts and prestigious alcoholic beverages. Secondly, guests at such establishments are treated much more attentively than in conventional restaurants (Mealey, 2020). For instance, the hostess accompanies guests to their table and tells them about the menu. Finally, the fine-dining restaurant creates an atmosphere of elegance and exclusivity (fine china, glassware). In comparison with fast-casual restaurants, this type is more popular among wealthy audience.The third type in modern classification is family-dining restaurants. The growth of them increased after World War II and became an integral part of the restaurant industry (Gunther Toody’s restaurant, 2014). A family-dining restaurant is similar to a fast-casual restaurant (Erin B., 2021). First of all, they serve large portions of food at reasonable prices and are aimed specifically at families or large groups of people. Secondly, they cover a wide variety of cuisines such as Traditional American, Chinese and also Italian as the portions are large enough to be shared by several people (MasterClass staff, 2021). Family-dining restaurants play an important role in the development of catering, particularly in American society, as they were created for all category of population, especially for families and large companies.The final type is fast-food restaurants, that emerged and gainedpopularity all over the world in the second half of the XX century.Currently they are characterized by speed of service, convenience and inexpensive prices. Firstly, all menus are made at fixed prices from mass-produced products. Secondly, menus in such establishments are limited and food is always available for takeaway, but there is also sometimes provided seating (Celentano, 2019). Fast-food restaurants, for the most part, are chain restaurants. For instance, the well-known McDonald's iscertainly the global leader in fast food (see Appendix 1). It is possible to distinguish 10 main fast-food restaurants that are the most popular in America at present. These include Starbucks, KFC, Subway, Domino's and the less popular Pizza Hut, Burger King and others.A considerable amount of people criticize fast-food chains for their influence on people’s health, however they in spite of everything remain the most popular and available ones.In conclusion,it is important to emphasizethat historical roots of modern types of restaurants revert to ancient times. Through the years they were developing and changing together with countries and their food culture. Currently everyone may find a restaurant that meets personal preferences and budget.ConclusionIn this essay, I have analyzed the main historical points, in addition to the specific types of restaurants that existed in ancient and medieval times. Next, I reviewed the modern types of restaurants that are widespread today, and will outline their characteristics. In this essay, only the main types of restaurants in different eras were considered, since the subject of the topic is extremely broad.To summarize, different types of restaurants date back to ancient times, although they did not possess any definite characteristics other than offering meals back then. In the Middle Ages there were inns and taverns which offered plain dishes which seldom were made of high-quality or fresh products. Medieval restaurants, the same as ancient ones, mainly served the purpose to feed people. Having considered everything mentioned above, the following conclusion may be drawn: the number of various types of restaurants has vastly expanded, the restaurants havealso faced drastic transformations. Unlike restaurants and cafes in the 18th and 19th centuries, modern catering establishments serve various purposes - from a quick snack to a pleasant pastime with the family and a gourmet dinner.Furthermore, modern customers have more options and a much wider choice than before. Moreover, in 2021 every type of restaurant has certain standards of service and behavior of staff with the guests. High quality of food and service is crucial for every type of restaurant, from fast-food to fine dining. The aim of this essay to analyze different types of restaurants and follow their changes through the development of history and food culture has been successfully achieved by doing extensive research.
