One category of speech disorder is dysfluency Stuttering is, perhaps, the most serious dysfluency. It is characterized by a disruption in the flow of speech. People repeat speech sounds, hesitate before and during speaking and, or, prolongate speech sounds. There are over 15 million individuals who stutter in the world. Articulation difficulties constitute the most numerous of all speech disorders. The term refers to difficulties with the way sounds are formed and strung together ("wabbit" for "rabbit"), omitting a sound ("han" for "hand"), or distorting a sound ("sip for ship").Voice disorders relate to difficulties with the quality, pitch and loudness of the voice. These people may have trouble with the way their voices sound and their interlocutors may have trouble while listening to them. A language disorder may include the form of language, the content of language and, the function of language. affect children and adults differently. Children who do not use language normally from birth, or who acquire the impairment in childhood can have disorders of language. Many adults acquire disorders of language because of stroke, head injury, or other diseases.
People with auditory processing disorder (APD) often do not recognize subtle differences between sounds in words, even though the sounds themselves are loud and clear. For example, the request "Tell me how a couch and a chair are alike" may sound to a person with APD like "Tell me how a cow and a chair are alike." This is the so-called "word deafness." People with APD typically have normal hearing and intelligence.
The expanding field of media and strong communication skills can be applied to any position that deals with information to the public or large groups of people such as students, employers, customers, clients, or members. If you can create a communication strategy and deliver a clear message to your interlocutors it is a valuable skill. A degree in communications or psychology offers many career jobs and can be great foundations for further education. Job titles include: Communications Coordinator, Marketing Coordinator, Public Affairs Coordinator, Advertising Coordinator, Market Research Analyst, Product or Brand Manager. Journalist or Reporter, Corporate Trainer, eLearning Developer, Public Educator, Politician, Career or Job Search Coach also require good communication skills, to say nothing of such important jobs as Psychologist, Counselor/Therapist, Psychiatrist and others.
